What changed for 2027 Maine health insurance, in plain English

Christopher York, licensed Maine health insurance producer · October 2026

Five things are different this year. Here they are without the jargon.

1. The extra subsidies are gone

The enhanced federal credits from 2021 expired at the end of 2025. The regular credits remain, but your share of the premium is bigger, and above a certain income there is no credit at all. About three in four CoverME.gov enrollees still got help in 2026.

2. Rates rose about 14.8% on average

Anthem about 15.8%, Community Health Options about 6.6%, Harvard Pilgrim about 19.5%. Your change depends on your plan and your subsidy, so an auto-renewal can land you on a plan that is now the expensive one.

3. Mending Health is leaving

Plans end December 31, 2026. Members must pick a new plan during open enrollment; do not rely on being mapped automatically.

4. The dates

November 1 to January 15. December 15 is the real deadline if you want coverage on January 1.

5. MaineCare has new rules for some adults

Community engagement requirements start in 2027 for certain adults. We will tell you whether they apply to you before you count on MaineCare.
